ScanLocker password protection screen for a PDF

A document scanner that turns paper into searchable, password-protected PDFs using on-device ML Kit — with folders, full-text search, an app lock and encrypted backups.

What it does

Features

Everything below works with the network switched off.

Scan, crop, enhance

Automatic edge detection, perspective correction, rotation and filters. Reorder pages by dragging the thumbnail strip before you export.

Searchable PDFs

On-device OCR embeds an invisible text layer at export, so you can find and copy words later. Recognition covers English and Hindi, with a single-file override.

Password-protected PDFs

Add, change or remove a password with 256-bit AES. Files are protected before they ever leave the app.

App lock and biometrics

A password or Face ID / fingerprint gate on resume keeps the vault closed when the phone changes hands.

Folders, tags and full-text search

Receipts, IDs and business cards get their own folders. Search titles, folders, tags, and the text inside every document with a local index.

Encrypted backup

A password-protected full-vault backup you control, with a newer-wins merge on restore. No account, no sync server.

Getting started

How it works

Three steps from install to the first real use.

Scan the pages

Point the camera at the document. ScanLocker detects the edges and corrects the perspective for you.

Clean up and arrange

Crop, rotate, filter and reorder. Merge separate documents or split out a page range.

Export a protected PDF

Save with OCR, choose a compression level, and add a password if the document is sensitive.

FAQ

ScanLocker questions

Can't find it here? Ask support — a real person answers.

Do my scanned documents get uploaded anywhere?
No. Scanning, OCR, PDF creation and encryption all happen on the device using Google ML Kit and local libraries. There is no ScanLocker account and no document server. Files live in the app-private ScanLocker folder unless you export or share them.
Which languages does OCR support?
English (Latin script), Hindi (Devanagari) or both together. The choice lives in Settings → PDF Export and applies to the invisible text layer in the exported PDF.
Is the PDF password really encrypted?
Yes — PDF passwords use 256-bit AES. The app lock is a separate gate for opening ScanLocker itself, backed by the Android keystore and optionally biometrics.
What happens to deleted documents?
Deleting moves a document to Trash, where it stays for 30 days before an automatic purge. You can restore it or empty the trash immediately.
Can I back up my whole vault?
Yes. Backup produces a password-protected file you choose the destination for. Restore merges by newest-wins, so an older backup will not overwrite newer documents.
Does ScanLocker work without an internet connection?
Yes. Scanning, OCR, PDF export, search, encryption and backup are all local operations. The only network activity is Play Store distribution itself.
Is there an iOS version?
ScanLocker is built with Flutter and an iOS build is in progress. The App Store link will replace the “coming soon” note here once it is live.

Does a free Android scanner app have a page limit?

When someone asks for a scanner with "no page limit", they usually mean one of three different caps. How to check each one before you install, and where the limits actually live.
