1. Overview
Launcher is an Android home-screen replacement (launcher) with a built-in app drawer, torch, digital compass, calculator shortcut, weather forecast and a Google News reader. This policy explains what the app accesses, what it stores and what — if anything — is sent over the internet.
In short: Launcher stores a few preferences locally, reads the list of launchable apps so it can show them, and contacts the internet only when you open News or Weather. Nothing is sold, profiled or shared with advertisers.
2. Information Launcher accesses
Launcher declares an intent query for apps that have a launcher activity, so Android shows it the
apps that can actually be opened from the home screen. Launcher uses that visibility only to build the
app drawer, search results and category filters, and to load each app's icon and label. It does not
request the broad QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission.
✓ The installed-app list is processed in memory on the device. It is not stored in a database, uploaded, profiled or shared.
The camera permission is used only to switch the device's camera flash on and off for the Torch, Strobe and SOS modes. Launcher does not open the camera, capture photos or record video, and it does not request a microphone permission.
✓ No image, video or audio data is captured, stored or transmitted.
If you open the Compass screen, Launcher may ask for location access to show your latitude, longitude, altitude and GPS accuracy next to the magnetic heading. Location is optional: the compass heading still works if you decline, and the app remains fully usable.
If you use the Weather screen with your current location, Launcher sends those coordinates (latitude and longitude) to the weather provider — the Google Weather API, or Open-Meteo when no Google key is configured — solely to return the local forecast. The provider may receive your IP address as part of that request.
✓ Compass coordinates are displayed on screen only. Location is never stored by Launcher, attached to an account or used for advertising.
Used when you open News or Weather. For News, Launcher requests public RSS headlines from Google News and loads the article thumbnails those feeds reference. For Weather, it requests a forecast for your chosen location. Like any web request, these requests disclose your IP address, a standard user-agent string and the requested URL to the service handling the request.
✓ No account, advertising ID, installed-app list or usage history is attached to those requests.
REQUEST_DELETE_PACKAGES lets the app drawer hand an uninstall request to Android's own system uninstaller. VIBRATE provides short haptic feedback for taps. Neither permission exposes personal data.
3. What is stored on your device
Launcher keeps a small set of preferences in Android's private app storage:
- Onboarding status — whether you have completed the welcome screen.
- Terms acceptance — whether you accepted the Terms of Use and this policy.
- Drawer scroll direction — vertical or horizontal, as chosen during setup.
No usage history, search history, location history, news reading history or installed-app inventory is stored. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling Launcher deletes every preference immediately.
4. What Launcher does not do
- No user accounts, sign-in, email collection or cloud sync.
- No advertising SDK, no ad requests and no advertising ID access.
- No analytics, attribution, crash-reporting or telemetry SDK.
- No selling or renting of personal data, and no sharing beyond the weather request described above.
- No access to contacts, messages, call logs, photos, files, microphone or health data.
- No background tracking. Launcher only performs work while it is visible or while Android is drawing the home screen.
5. Third-party services
Google News RSS. The News screen reads public RSS feeds hosted by Google News (news.google.com) and opens article links in your browser. Google and the publisher of an article you open handle that request under their own privacy policies. Launcher does not send them your app list, location or preferences.
Google Weather API and Open-Meteo. The Weather screen sends the selected coordinates to a weather service to retrieve current conditions and forecasts. Launcher uses the Google Weather API when an API key is configured; otherwise it uses the keyless Open-Meteo API. Both services also receive the request's IP address and user-agent string. Their own privacy policies apply to those requests.
Google Play. If you installed Launcher from Google Play, Google processes the download and any store-related information under the Google Play Terms of Service and Google's privacy policy.
There are no other third-party SDKs, processors or data recipients in the app.
6. Data sharing and security
We do not operate a server and do not collect personal data. The only data that leaves your device is the content of a News request or a Weather request. News and weather requests use HTTPS. App preferences remain inside Android's sandboxed storage and are protected by the operating system's app-isolation model.
7. Your choices and data deletion
- Deny or revoke camera access: the torch will not work, but the launcher and every other tool will.
- Deny or revoke location access: the compass still shows a heading and Weather can use a city you search for.
- Disable network access: News and Weather cannot refresh, but the rest of the app works offline.
- Delete local data: Android Settings → Apps → Launcher → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
Because there is no server account, there is no remote copy to delete.
8. Children's privacy
Launcher is a general-purpose utility intended for users aged 13 and over. It is not directed to children under 13. The News screen displays third-party headlines that may include content intended for adults; we do not control or curate those stories. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has used the app, uninstalling it removes every local preference.
9. Changes to this policy
If a future version adds a feature that changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated before that version is released, with a new effective date and version number. The current version is always available at this URL and is linked from the app's welcome screen.
