1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ScrollBreak ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not install or use the App.
2. Purpose & Conscious Habit Friction
- Mindful pause: the app introduces a conscious friction pause (coloring a template, solving a cognitive puzzle) before unlocking selected distracting applications.
- Self-directed configuration: you choose which apps to monitor, what challenge difficulty to set, and how often a pause is enforced.
- No spyware or parental surveillance: ScrollBreak is a voluntary, on-device mindfulness tool for personal focus. It is not covert surveillance or monitoring software.
3. System Permissions & User Consent
To function, ScrollBreak requires user-granted Android permissions (all on-device except billing and the optional holiday lookup):
- Accessibility Service: used strictly to identify when a user-selected app enters the foreground so a challenge can be shown. It does not inspect personal content, record keypresses, or alter system input. Before system Accessibility Settings are opened, the app shows an in-app disclosure dialog with "I understand — Continue" (accept) and "Decline" options; declining or dismissing records nothing and opens nothing.
- Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS): used locally to calculate app duration and usage-free statistics.
- Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): used to overlay challenges on top of chosen apps.
- Installed Apps (launcher-visible only): used to list launchable apps so you can choose what to monitor. No broad package-visibility permission is used. Never sent off-device.
- Ignore Battery Optimization: used to maintain continuous guard reliability.
- Internet: used for Play Store update links, an optional public-holiday lookup (country code and year only), Google Play / RevenueCat billing verification, and Google Firebase crash diagnostics plus consent-gated product analytics on the free plan. Analytics is never enabled for Pro, and no usage habits are transmitted. See the Privacy Policy, Sections 8–10.
You may revoke any permission at any time through Android Settings, which may limit the app's ability to enforce friction pauses.
4. On-Device by Default & Limited Third-Party Processing
ScrollBreak's core features operate on-device. We do not sell, broker, or share your usage habits, installed-app list, challenge content or settings with any third party. Three named processors are the exceptions: Google AdMob (free-plan ads), RevenueCat (Pro purchase verification) and Google Firebase (crash diagnostics for everyone; consent-gated product analytics on the free plan only, never for Pro) — see the Privacy Policy, Sections 8–10. None of them receives your usage history or the names of apps you protect.
5. Subscriptions & Payments (ScrollBreak Pro)
ScrollBreak is free to use for up to 2 monitored apps. ScrollBreak Pro unlocks unlimited monitored apps.
- Plans: Monthly and Yearly are auto-renewing subscriptions. Lifetime and Founders Lifetime are one-time purchases with no renewal. Founders Lifetime is limited to the first 50 buyers.
- Prices: the price, currency, and billing period displayed by Google Play at checkout are the ones that apply to your purchase. List prices differ by region and may be subject to local taxes. Prices may change — Google Play notifies affected subscribers in advance where required.
- Launch price: there is no free trial. For eligible new customers, Google Play may apply a discounted launch price to the first billing period, after which the standard price applies. The amount shown at checkout is the amount charged. Eligibility is enforced by Google Play.
- Auto-renewal & cancellation: subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled via Google Play > Payments & subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Uninstalling the app does NOT cancel your subscription.
- Refunds: governed solely by Google Play's refund policy.
- Verification & offline use: Pro status is verified online via RevenueCat at purchase, restore, app launch, and before the paywall is shown; a cached status keeps enforcement working offline. See the Privacy Policy for billing-data details.
